Homegrown Space exists for one kind of person: someone who wants to grow real food but doesn’t have a real backyard.
Homegrown Space started because we kept getting the same question from friends and family: “I want to grow my own herbs and vegetables, but I don’t have a backyard — what do I do?”
Most gardening sites assume you have a plot of land. We don’t. Our focus is specifically on growing food in small spaces — raised beds on balconies and patios, and hydroponic kits on kitchen counters. These are the two most practical, beginner-accessible approaches for apartment dwellers and small-yard homeowners.
Our process is simple: we actually assemble the kits. We fill the raised beds with soil. We plant crops, track them through a full season, and then write about what worked and what didn’t. We don’t review products we haven’t tested, and we don’t accept payment for favorable placement.
Every recommendation comes from gear we’ve assembled, planted, and grown in ourselves — not from reading spec sheets.
No brand pays for placement, rankings, or reviews. If something didn’t hold up in our testing, we say so plainly.
Everything we publish is written for balconies, patios, and countertops — because that’s the space most of us actually have.
Raised bed kits, hydroponic systems, soil, seeds — the same versions you’d order yourself.
We track build quality, ease of setup, and how plants actually perform across a full growing cycle.
Our guides include the trade-offs, not just the highlights, so you can choose with confidence.
